Cataracts Intense Pulsed Light Therapy for Dry Eyes

Milauskas Eye Institute Introduces Intense Pulsed Light Therapy for the Treatment of Dry Eye Disease

Dry Eye disease is a serious problem that affects people in all walks of life. It can be painful, effect a person's vision and can lead to long term serious complications that can in some cases jeopardize the health of the eye. In the Coachella Valley dry eye problems can be exacerbated by our environment of extreme heat, low humidity, air conditioning and increased use of computers.

Milauskas Eye Institute is pleased to be the first practice in the Coachella Valley offering the Intense Pulsed Light Therapy (IPL) for severe dry eye treatment. This new therapy is an exciting step forward in the treatment of severe dry eyes. For patients who have tried eye drops, punctum plugs and other procedures without success, this provides a new method of treatment that can bring results when other therapies fail. In fact IPL treatment goes to the source of the problem not just treating the symptoms.

Rolando Toyos, MD first developed the use of IPL for dry eye disease. Dr. Toyos believes that the treatment improves meibomian gland function and reduces the inflammatory causes of dry eye disease. For more information click you can watch a video with Dr. Toyos here and read his published article here.

IPL treatment isn't for everyone. It is meant only for patients with severe dry eye syndrome. There is a wide spectrum of other treatments available for patients with less severe dry eye disease and the doctors at Milauskas Eye Institute can diagnose the severity of your dry eyes and prescribe the appropriate treatment plan and therapies. IPL treatment is limited to certain skin types as it could damage a person's skin with darker pigmentation.

If you are suffering from dry eye disease and are interested in IPL treatment please call our offices at 760-340-3937 to schedule an appointment with one of our physicians. You can also contact us by email at info@milauskas.com
